The Providence Journal / David DelPoio The DEM is working on a new program to buy farmland, protect it and then sell it at a steep discount to young or beginning farmers. Farmers say this is crucial in a state with the second-most expensive farmland in the nation, but there has been some pushback to the program from Republican legislators. Sidewalk Ends Farm was founded by three young women in the spring of 2011 on a 5000-square foot vacant lot in Providence¥s Armory Park neighborhood. In 2014 we expanded our operation to two acres in Seekonk, MA. Tess Brown-Lavoie and Sarah Turkus and Mabel at farm in Seekonk.
